Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lead Communications Strategist to join our dynamic team. This newly established position is designed to oversee and guide project teams, focusing on measuring key outcomes for our clients within our Strategic Communications practice. The successful candidate will have a background in leading strategic communications initiatives, particularly in the public affairs sector.

The Lead Strategist will collaborate closely with project and creative teams to devise and implement comprehensive communication strategies. These strategies may encompass content creation, earned media, social media, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach campaigns aimed at diverse audiences utilizing both traditional and innovative resources. Together with the project team, they will translate complex issues into engaging narratives.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who brings fresh ideas and perspectives to simplify highly technical materials for public understanding. They will manage multiple project teams, scopes, and resources, ensuring deliverables are met and metrics are tracked for successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic counsel and generate actionable ideas while leading projects and campaigns.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies involving strategic planning and public engagement.
  • Manage a robust public engagement strategy to connect with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Create original and engaging content for various platforms.
  • Lead client promotional campaigns, including the creation and dissemination of publications, reports, website content, and social media materials.
  • Identify suitable external forums to share client narratives and support client representatives for speaking opportunities.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of communication and creative specialists.
  • Manage project task orders, including scope of work and cost proposals.
  • Ensure project account health, including contract compliance and budget management.
  • Interface with clients, providing guidance and support.
  • Attend and manage client events and functions.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in communications within public affairs.
  • Strong familiarity with public affairs policy and stakeholder engagement.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Experience managing project teams and junior staff is essential.
  • Ability to work independently on high-profile projects.
  • Extensive experience in government or statewide communications campaigns is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, communications, political science, or a related field.
  • Must reside in the area and have reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule, collaborating onsite with the team.
