Student Assistant for City Assessors

Overview:

This part-time role is tailored for full-time students currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education. By joining our team, you will play a vital role in the City Assessors unit, assisting with a variety of tasks while acquiring essential experience in a professional office setting.

Primary Duties:

  • Assisting the Administrative Assistant and City Assessors with routine operations
  • Developing and managing filing systems
  • Scanning, processing, verifying, and preserving documentation
  • Gaining familiarity with property taxation data

Essential Qualifications:

For Level I Assignments: Enrollment in an accredited college or graduate program is a prerequisite for this entry-level position.

For Level II Assignments (Information Technology): Enrollment in an accredited college or graduate program with a concentration in information technology or related disciplines is required. Additionally, 9 semester credits in the pertinent field are necessary.

For Level III Assignments (Information Technology Fellow): Enrollment in an accredited college or graduate program focusing on information technology or similar areas is essential. Like Level II, 9 semester credits in the relevant field are required.

NOTE: The maximum duration for College Aide positions is 6 years. Part-time work is restricted during academic terms, but students may work full-time during breaks.

Students are encouraged to investigate federal loan forgiveness and state repayment assistance programs as part of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness initiative.

Residency Requirement: Typically, residency in New York City is expected within 90 days of employment. Employees with two years of service may also be eligible to reside in certain nearby counties.
