Job Overview

Clarke Schools is dedicated to equipping children who are deaf or hard of hearing with essential listening, learning, and spoken language skills necessary for their success. Our programs and services support nearly 1,000 children and their families across multiple locations.

We are seeking qualified Educators for Hearing Impaired Students to join our team.

CLASSROOM DUTIES:
  • Designing, preparing, and delivering lessons tailored to each child's individual needs, IEP objectives, and developmental milestones.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation for attendance, parent communication, IEP compliance, and health and safety protocols.
  • Overseeing students throughout the school day.
  • Supervising the collection, transcription, and analysis of language samples.
  • Encouraging student engagement with a curriculum that aligns with fundamental child development principles.
  • Enhancing opportunities for auditory and spoken language growth within the classroom setting.
  • Facilitating student communication and ensuring the integration of classroom activities with individual speech-language sessions.
  • Engaging small groups and individual students in activities that foster auditory and spoken language skill development.
  • Creating a welcoming and supportive environment for parents and caregivers within the school community.
  • Directing and supervising teaching assistants.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the administration to support school operations.
MEETINGS AND COLLABORATION:
  • Participating in educational team meetings to discuss student progress.
  • Attending weekly staff meetings.
  • Engaging in parent meetings as required.
  • Contributing to CASSLS conferences.
  • Participating in parent workshops and community events.
DOCUMENTATION AND REPORTING:
  • Developing written plans that cater to the needs of students and adhere to educational standards and IEP goals.
  • Communicating with parents through various channels, including communication notebooks and school updates.
  • Preparing progress reports and IEP documentation.
  • Conducting daily assessments of student progress.
  • Promoting the mission and objectives of Clarke Schools.
Qualifications:
  • New York State certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education and a Master's degree.
  • Preferred certification in a related field such as Early Childhood Education, TSSLD, or Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to the listening and spoken language approach for educating deaf and hard of hearing children.
  • Certification in Listening and Spoken Language or a willingness to pursue it.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
