Laboratory Automation Specialist

We are currently seeking a skilled Laboratory Automation Specialist to join our esteemed Veterinary Medicine Research and Development team. This role is integral to our Automation Solutions group within Automation & Data Sciences, focusing on the design and execution of laboratory automation initiatives that bolster our R&D operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of assay automation at Zoetis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects to comprehend scientific workflows, gather requirements, and oversee the development and execution of laboratory automation initiatives.
  • Enhance existing automated laboratory processes by identifying improvement opportunities and implementing solutions.
  • Engage in the assessment of new assay automation technologies and contribute to the overarching automation strategy.
  • Design and implement quality control processes for routine instrument checks and coordinate necessary maintenance.
  • Provide training to end-users and ensure ongoing support for automated workflows.
  • Utilize external resources to innovate new automated processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure cohesive alignment across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in programming liquid handling systems, with a preference for Hamilton's Venus.
  • Ability to design user-centric software interfaces based on end-user experiences.
  • Experience in integrating automation instruments with assay and logistics data systems.
  • Proficient in developing, validating, and maintaining automated liquid handling systems.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with assay technologies relevant to Life Sciences.
  • Experience in regulated laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge of various liquid handling systems, including Hamilton Star, Agilent Bravo, Tecan, and Beckman Coulter.
  • Proficient in SQL scripting and database management.
  • Experience with automated assay systems and scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with programming languages and version control tools.
  • Experience mentoring new team members in instrument programming and integration.
