Position Summary:
This role is for an Automation Systems Specialist responsible for developing designs for systems related to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) and High-Level Waste project.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, effective problem-solving capabilities, and a proactive approach. This position is based in Richland, Washington.Key Responsibilities:
- Review and prepare advanced engineering documents and schematics pertinent to the Automation Systems engineering discipline.
- Accurately interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, and client design specifications in the creation of Automation Systems design outputs.
Key activities include:
- Collaboration with various engineering disciplines.
- Reviewing project design criteria, vendor documentation, Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), and Mechanical System Descriptions to ascertain control and instrumentation requirements.
- Selecting instrumentation in alignment with process and mechanical specifications.
- Preparing Digital Logic Diagrams and Functional Block Diagrams.
- Generating Document Change Notices and updating P&IDs to incorporate control functionalities for advanced process control systems.
Additionally, coordinate technical challenges with Startup & Commissioning teams and provide field support to Construction.
Maintain the project's instrument database using automated tools, ensuring accurate information is captured.
Design and review Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) for various systems, perform setpoint calculations, specify instrumentation and control valves, and generate their data sheets and requisitions.
Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications:
BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or an equivalent field plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience; or, in lieu of a degree, 9 years of pertinent experience.
Must possess at least 3 years of experience in developing, verifying, and reviewing Automation Systems Engineering documentation for detailed design.Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, physical examination (if applicable), and background verification, including employment and education checks.
Must be eligible to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to designated sites.Must have the legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications:
- Familiarity with nuclear facility design.Experience in process control system software development.Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective presentation abilities.Proficient in VISIO CADD and/or PDS 2D.Understanding of Automation Systems Engineering processes, protocols, and specifications.Proficient in Microsoft 365 Applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint).Experience with Software Quality Assurance and Configuration Management.Prior experience with Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE projects.Experience in cost variance analysis.Ability to perform calculations and analyses to support design engineering and material quantity assessments.EIT/FE Certification.Knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards for Automation Systems engineering.
