Medical Assistants undertake both administrative and clinical tasks under the guidance of a healthcare provider, such as a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner, within a medical office environment.


The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with the physician in the clinical setting, aids in direct patient care, and acts as a clinical intermediary between the physician and patients, as well as between the physician and office personnel.

The role requires fostering communication among all healthcare providers, patients, and office staff regarding the patient's care plan as established by the attending physician.

This individual is responsible for addressing patients' needs while applying age-appropriate principles of growth and development for individuals of all ages, in accordance with the practice specialty.


Clinical Duties:

Administrative Duties:

  • Escorting patients to examination rooms
  • Welcoming patients
  • Measuring vital signs
  • Coordinating appointment schedules
  • Assisting in medical procedures
  • Handling phone inquiries
  • Conducting phlebotomy
  • Performing clerical and computer tasks
  • Collecting laboratory specimens
  • Managing prior authorizations
  • Complying with safety and infection control protocols
  • Processing billing and coding
  • Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Sending faxes
  • Calculating and administering medications and vaccinations
  • Completing disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) documentation

Qualifications:

Essential:
Completion of a medical assistant training program (or) One year of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Preferred:
One year of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Certification as a Medical Assistant.
