Job Overview

This position involves responsible technical duties related to engineering planning, construction oversight, and compliance evaluations. The individual in this role will also be tasked with identifying, assessing, and condition coding utility assets to maintain an accurate inventory and status of these resources.

Salary

Min $41,808.00 annually

Mid $55,400.80 annually

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on the assigned responsibilities, the incumbent may perform one or more of the activities described below:

  • Conduct compliance evaluations on significant construction projects to ensure adherence to regulations and standards.
  • Review construction documents to verify compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings to discuss timelines and project specifics.
  • Draft or modify plans and specifications to ensure alignment with contract requirements.
  • Inspect materials and equipment delivered to sites for compliance with specifications.
  • Evaluate equipment for maintenance and repair needs.
  • Perform field tests to ensure installations meet standards.
  • Monitor construction practices to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Conduct inspections during and after construction to ensure compliance with plans.
  • Address citizen complaints and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of project activities and inspections.
  • Resolve discrepancies between plans and specifications.
  • Review contractor payment requests and recommend actions.
  • Document inspection activities and prepare reports.
  • Collect data using GPS devices for asset management.
  • Conduct traffic studies and manage data collection equipment.
  • Order supplies and maintain equipment as needed.
  • Communicate policies and procedures to employees and the public.
  • Operate a vehicle for site visits and communication.
  • Supervise staff in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Knowledge of construction practices and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with public works procedures.
  • Basic mathematical skills and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with technology, including computers and tablets.
  • Understanding of construction regulations and departmental policies.
  • Experience with software such as AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Ability to interpret construction codes and contracts.
  • Competence in using testing instruments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with various stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in both office and outdoor settings.
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, and stand.
  • Ability to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close and distance vision.

Work Category

  • Medium Work - Involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or GED; AND
  • Three years of experience in engineering support; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience; AND
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
