Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate and mark the location of water, reclaimed water, or wastewater lines to prevent damage during construction, boring, and digging operations.
  • Maintain accurate records using paper and/or electronic systems.
  • Use electronic and/or paper utility maps, engineering plans, computer programs, and other drawings to assist in determining the actual location of utilities.
  • Use electronic pipe locating equipment, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), metal detectors, shovels, probing rods, and measuring instruments to field verify the location of utilities.
  • Identify errors and/or make corrections to utilities maps and relay the information for GIS mapping updates.
  • Interact with the public and contractors to relay information relating to utilities.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
  • Utility Locator Training Certification from the Utility Training Academy, or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in construction inspection.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Working Conditions

The work is generally outdoors and may occur during moderately adverse conditions, including weather, traffic, dampness, and exposure to storm water and wastewater flows and atmospheres.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry equipment for periods of short duration but repeatedly over the course of a day (occasionally requires heavy lifting).
Work Category
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration.
