As a Clinical Nurse Resident in our Medical Intensive Care Unit, you will gain hands-on experience in providing direct nursing care, administering prescribed treatments, developing patient care strategies, and conducting comprehensive daily assessments. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced nurses who are committed to mentoring and guiding new graduates. Here’s what you can anticipate during your residency program:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a residency core curriculum tailored to your individual learning needs.
  • Deliver direct nursing care under the guidance of a coach, adhering to established protocols and policies.
  • Set and adjust priorities for patient care based on acuity, patient preferences, and available resources.
  • Initiate and maintain interventions to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Respond proactively to data indicating potential health risks and take corrective actions.
  • Seek guidance and support when necessary to ensure safe and independent practice.
  • Adhere to established personnel policies and procedures.
  • Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Document patient information in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Certification Requirements:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA required for Critical Care areas upon hire or within the first year.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from AHA required within one year for RNs in specific pediatric settings.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on the clinical area of practice.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and responding appropriately.

Work Experience:

  • New graduates or RNs with less than one year of experience in acute direct patient care.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, including lifting and handling patients, as well as manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Must be able to work under stress and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids is expected.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.

  • Adhere to Standard Precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
