Overview

The University of Michigan Health (UMH) is on the lookout for a seasoned Project Manager/Senior Architect to become a vital part of the Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) team.

FPD is dedicated to providing comprehensive user consultation and support throughout various phases of project execution, including concept creation, planning, budgeting, funding, design, engineering, construction oversight, project activation, and limited commissioning.

Our objective is to deliver exceptional facilities and physical frameworks that ensure a safe, clean, comfortable, functional, and healthy environment, directly aligning with our mission.


Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the liaison between Facilities Planning and Development and specific clinical and support departments.
  • Utilize knowledge of departmental operations, opportunities, and challenges to aid in problem-solving, prioritizing requests, decision-making, and strategic direction setting.
  • Conduct reviews and analyses of facility enhancement and equipment addition/upgrade/replacement requests.
  • Oversee the preparation of facility investigation reports and formulate opinions on project probable costs and requirements.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules/milestones, and budgets.
  • Manage and review all aspects of project delivery for both owned and leased facilities, ensuring compliance with client expectations and UMH guidelines.
  • Oversee programming, design development, construction documentation, bidding, and construction processes.
  • Directly manage deactivation and activation activities, assisting with equipment and furniture specifications.
  • Coordinate the delivery, removal, and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment with vendors and/or FPD support staff.
  • Ensure proper archiving and sharing of project record documents (as-builts, O&M manuals, etc.) with relevant staff and partners.
  • Direct the contracting and activities of retained consultants, contractors, and vendors, reviewing and approving fee proposals and payments for services.
  • Regularly communicate project status, potential opportunities, and risks to leadership, project partners, and end users through reports, presentations, and other documentation.
  • Prepare scope of work and cost estimates for maintenance, repair, and corrective work requests of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Support the ongoing Facility Condition Assessment program for building-related items.
  • Assist in ensuring facility operations and regulatory compliance concerning healthcare regulations and building codes.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of UMH facility design guidelines and preferred manufacturers lists.

Required Qualifications
  • Licensure as an Architect in the State of Michigan is preferred.
  • A professional degree in Architecture/Engineering (Master or Bachelor of Architecture) accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management and facilities design.
  • Familiarity with healthcare procedures and equipment.
  • Understanding of healthcare facility design and construction guidelines, building codes, and barrier-free standards.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Proven capability to define project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Autodesk AutoCAD.
