About the Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS)

The IMS is an interdisciplinary research institute at Georgia Tech focused on solving societal and technological challenges through a collaborative approach:

  • Understanding and controlling matter at various scales.
  • Synthesizing and characterizing materials for desired properties.
  • Designing and fabricating advanced devices and components.
  • Integrating materials and devices into larger systems.
  • Utilizing computing and big data to drive advancements.
  • Incorporating economic and social factors for sustainable research outcomes.

IMS promotes interdisciplinary research in areas such as:

  • Microelectronic technologies for efficient information processing.

Position Summary

This role involves supporting research activities within IMS cleanrooms and laboratories. The candidate should be well-versed in cleanroom protocols and equipment operation, capable of independently performing tasks such as training, processing, and troubleshooting. A comprehensive understanding of IMS cleanroom technologies is essential for providing support in fabrication, calibration, analysis, and proposal preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research groups to provide processing consultation and fabrication services.
  • Develop new processes to meet critical research needs.
  • Conduct independent research and secure external funding.
  • Stay updated on advancements in nanotechnology and identify opportunities for integration.
  • Support cleanroom users with process evaluations and on-site training.
  • Perform routine equipment tests and prepare performance reports.
  • Educate researchers on nanotechnology through various formats.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance with IMS staff and research users.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, or a related field.

Preferred: A bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering/Science with 5 years of laboratory/cleanroom experience, familiarity with microelectronics fabrication processes, and excellent communication skills in English.
