Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Specialist to join our team at Bexar County, TX. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to our courtroom systems, ensuring the smooth operation of our audio-visual equipment and computer hardware/software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audio-Visual Equipment Support: Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain audio-visual equipment in courtrooms, including digital audio recording devices, wireless and wired microphone assemblies, amplification equipment, video conferencing equipment, and electronic surveillance equipment.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Perform diagnostic tests on microcomputers, network systems, and application software to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyze and develop solutions to problems and malfunctions of equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Hardware and Software Evaluation: Test and evaluate hardware and software for efficiency and compatibility with existing network systems.
  • User Support: Assist users in determining complex software/hardware needs through assessment of equipment capabilities and user requirements.
  • Equipment Procurement: Recommend the purchase of new equipment or modifications of existing hardware and prepare specifications and orders for needed equipment.
  • Project Management: Lead projects assigned to the section and compile status reports to management.
  • Audio-Visual Coordination: Coordinate the use of audio-visual equipment, lighting, and sound in courtrooms.
  • Documentation: Produce written and electronic materials, such as court documents, procedures, and instructions, and prepare reports.
  • Inventory Management: Schedule, deliver, and track equipment and maintain accurate inventory records of hardware/software installation and relocation.
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply Maintenance: Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair uninterruptible power supply systems.
  • After-Hours Support: Respond to after-hour calls related to courtroom technology systems.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Audio Visual Media, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of computer network experience, or successful completion of a relevant program from an accredited technical school and three (3) years of computer network experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Good knowledge of LAN software packages and operating systems, considerable knowledge of the principles of basic electronics, considerable knowledge of electromechanical systems, good knowledge of AC and DC circuitry, considerable knowledge of electronic surveillance equipment, skill in logic problem-solving, and extensive knowledge of safety standards and practices.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions, ability to utilize amp meters, circuit analysis devices, and other computer diagnostic equipment, ability to read and understand schematics and other technical diagrams, and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected/Appointed Officials, Department Heads, County employees, and co-workers.
  • Background Investigation: Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
  • Physical Demands: Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 35-40 lbs., visual acuity, speech, and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and handling to perform the essential functions.
