Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design, including HVAC plumbing projects. This is a challenging role that requires expert knowledge and skills in engineering and design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all aspects of mechanical design, including HVAC plumbing projects
  • Organize and lead the design and engineering effort for assigned projects
  • Report to the Mechanical Engineer Team Lead regarding scheduling requirements
  • Direct and accept responsibility for the work of designers and engineers assigned to the project
  • Make adjustments to drawings, calculations, and specifications as required
  • Familiar with the project's scope of work, engineering, and construction budget
  • Assist in developing and maintaining design and engineering standards
  • Utilize knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings with a minimum of supervision
  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor and meet milestones of the project schedule within the allotted budgets
  • Inform the team lead mechanical engineer of project scope and budget changes; monitor project milestones to assure project quality and adherence to the project budget
  • Perform site surveys and equipment assessments; site visits may require overnight travel
  • Provide project engineering coordination during construction operations as assigned
  • Serve in a support role on projects as directed by the team lead mechanical engineer
  • Support the commissioning team with all aspects of commissioning services
  • Develop accurate preliminary design solutions for prospective complex projects within an expedited timeframe
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with customers throughout the course of a project
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' mechanical, or HVAC engineering experience with a professional engineering firm, automation contractor, or mechanical contractor engaged in MEP related or similar work desired
  • Professional Mechanical Engineer's license is a plus, but not required
  • Willingness to travel to worksites, up to 25%
  • Driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, controls, electrical and construction means, and methods associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and/or similar facilities
  • Proficient user of Microsoft office suite; highly proficient use of Excel and other software used in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with project management software (e.g. Procore, Bluebeam Revu)
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD/Revit Design software
  • Excellent mathematic skills in order to perform the duties of this role, review or prepare budgets and other job-related documents, and to effectively perform the role of a mechanical engineer
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written); must be able to effectively relay information to various audience groups, including, but not customers and perspective customers, managers, leadership, colleagues, and business associates
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with individuals internal and external to the company and from various backgrounds
  • Highly collaborative and focused on sharing details routinely and consistently with team members
  • Self-managing, able to work autonomously when necessary and effectively integrate with project teammates to meet deadlines and expectations

Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers, and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Travel may include overnight stays for multiple nights; travel may be by personal vehicle or by commercial airline.
