Position Overview:

The Healthcare Data Analyst II operates under the guidance of the Manager or their representative, executing data evaluations for designated initiatives and generating all pertinent reports. This role involves gathering information to equip leadership with essential tools for identifying optimal data analytic methodologies that align with client requirements. The Healthcare Data Analyst II will also begin to cultivate analytic consulting capabilities while maintaining a customer service orientation to design and deliver analytic solutions that fulfill or surpass client expectations. This position necessitates the ability to juggle multiple simultaneous projects while effectively managing to complete deliverables with increasing autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive data mining promptly and accurately as dictated by the program or project.
  • Generate standard and ad-hoc analyses and reports utilizing diverse data to support the formulation, execution, and assessment of programs or projects.
  • Integrate and manipulate extensive datasets from various data sources (e.g., claims and encounter data) to facilitate analyses using tools such as MS Excel, Access, SAS, SQL, COGNOS, and Business Objects.
  • Apply standard qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques employing software packages like SAS and SQL.
  • Contribute to the creation of project-specific analytic strategies, data manipulation, and collection efforts, which may encompass claims analysis, interviews, focus groups, and surveys involving clients and other key stakeholders.
  • Utilize and develop standard testing measures and/or algorithms to assess and analyze large datasets.
  • Design and construct data collection instruments, databases, and procedural manuals based on a comprehensive understanding of data files, related databases, and systems integration.
  • Engage in the design and execution of data management strategies and quality control processes, including drafting technical specifications and documentation of data sets.
  • Generate and submit data analysis reports, crafting methods and results narratives for inclusion in broader scientific reports prepared by senior personnel.
  • Ensure the precision of all data analyses, reports, and other outputs by performing thorough quality control checks and resolving discrepancies.
  • Interpret data for key stakeholders and leadership, identifying and reporting data trends and anomalies. This may include producing tabular and graphical summaries of analyses suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Coordinate and oversee activities related to data collection and analysis to meet project deadlines.
  • Communicate with all relevant parties to ensure clarity regarding the project's objectives, scope, and expected deliverables for each project phase. Facilitate communication regarding the project's status, budget, costs, issues, and related information.
  • May provide mentorship and training to junior data staff as necessary to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business, health sciences, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, including at least one year in healthcare data analysis.
  • Proven experience and skills in relevant computer, statistical, or database applications, including SAS/SQL, Business Objects, Cognos, or similar tools.
  • Strong attention to detail along with time management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to research issues and resources.
  • Proficient in writing reports, journal articles, and other technical documents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for successful interaction with a diverse range of individuals.
