Position Overview


In this role, you will operate with a degree of autonomy to underwrite and manage both new and renewal business, leveraging a deep understanding of policy specifications and coverage objectives.

You will navigate complex commercial underwriting tasks within established authority limits.

Take charge of your designated territory to drive profitability and growth by classifying and pricing new business, ensuring renewal retention, managing loss occurrences, and formulating, executing, and tracking strategic action plans.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess risk effectively and price business in alignment with the company's underwriting and pricing standards while adhering to established timelines.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with agents, overseeing agency growth, profitability, and submission quality; analyze loss trends (both frequency and severity) for each agent in your territory; evaluate the mix of business, loss ratios by line, and alignment with company guidelines; identify potential issues or trends and collaborate with agents to address them.
  • Secure reinsurance as necessary.
  • Utilize all available systems, tools, and resources to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Engage in the development of new products and coverage options.
  • Contribute to training initiatives for new underwriters.
  • Support underwriters in managing high-risk or complex accounts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to identify new opportunities that align with risk appetite.
  • Conduct agency visits to foster and maintain robust working relationships.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial underwriting policies, practices, and procedures
  • Strong underwriting acumen and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to engage with webinars effectively
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong negotiation abilities.
  • Capacity to advise agency personnel on commercial contracts and procedures.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications

A BA or BS degree is preferred. Familiarity with underwriting across all commercial lines for various business sectors, along with CPCU, AU, or equivalent experience is essential.
