Join a leading organization in the engineering sector as a Hybrid Process Control Specialist.

Position: Process Control Engineer

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Compensation: $90,000-$115,000 plus a 10% performance bonus

Work Arrangement: 2 days remote work per week

The Process Control Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing instrumentation and control systems to support production, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and safety objectives. This position requires collaboration across various disciplines and involves leading projects from conception through execution to enhance process efficiency and reliability of control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that instrumentation and control systems, along with documentation, meet the quality and production objectives of the designated unit(s) to align with business requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancements in instrumentation/control systems and facilitate effective Management of Change, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and validation aspects.
  • Maintain expertise continuity by developing specialized knowledge in specific elements of the site control system.
  • Oversee assigned capital projects, ensuring adherence to approved budgets, timelines, and project scopes.
  • Engage in lifecycle planning for control systems to ensure ongoing support and suitability as they approach obsolescence.
  • Promote continuous improvement within plant automation, enhancing process efficiency and reliability of control systems.
  • Investigate and assess new technologies and applications that could benefit the organization. Share insights and provide support within the team and across other facilities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for control system issues, including server communication breakdowns.
  • Implement automation and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational processes and systems.
  • Analyze and execute projects focused on upgrading outdated hardware and modernizing control systems.
  • Collaborate with process units to integrate new codes and refine existing processes.
  • Manage and maintain server and infrastructure systems interfacing with process equipment.
  • Ensure the reliability and upkeep of three-phase motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and other equipment related to processes.

Ideal Candidates Will Possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or relevant experience in automation and controls.
  • Proven knowledge of PLC or DCS hardware and software, as well as data historians.
  • Experience in project management with a history of successful project completions.
  • Expertise in the theory of operation, application, specification, installation, and tuning of control valves and measurement devices.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is advantageous.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and concepts.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and optimizing server/infrastructure systems associated with process equipment.
  • Knowledge of three-phase motors, VFDs, and the maintenance of process-related equipment.
