Cost Management Specialist

Overview: In the role of Cost Management Specialist, you will oversee and regulate financial expenditures associated with engineering initiatives within our organization. Collaborating closely with project leaders, engineers, and other stakeholders, you will ensure that projects are delivered within financial limits while upholding quality benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Budget Oversight: Formulate and sustain project budgets in partnership with project leaders and financial teams. Track spending, pinpoint discrepancies, and enact corrective measures as needed to maintain budget compliance.
  2. Cost Forecasting: Aid in the development of cost forecasts for engineering projects, encompassing materials, labor, equipment, and other pertinent expenses. Scrutinize and authenticate cost forecasts to guarantee precision and thoroughness.
  3. Expenditure Management: Establish financial oversight protocols to monitor and manage project spending throughout the project lifecycle. Evaluate cost patterns, recognize potential savings opportunities, and suggest suitable actions to mitigate risks and reduce budget overruns.
  4. Financial Documentation: Generate routine weekly and monthly financial summaries and updates on project expenditures, including budget versus actual assessments, forecasting, and variance clarifications. Present financial data to project teams and upper management as required.
  5. Contract Oversight: Examine contracts, purchase orders, and amendments to ensure alignment with budgetary standards and financial management protocols. Negotiate with suppliers and contractors to secure competitive pricing and advantageous terms.
  6. Financial Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate financial risks that could affect project costs, such as scope alterations, schedule delays, or unexpected expenses. Formulate risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize financial liabilities.
  7. Process Optimization: Consistently assess and enhance financial management processes and procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness. Implement best practices and standardized methodologies to streamline financial oversight activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, PMP) is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial oversight, budget management, or financial analysis, preferably within an engineering or construction context.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and produce actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project) is preferred.
  • Experience with Power Bi is preferred and considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with various ERP software is preferred and considered a plus.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, robust organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of Earned Value and Project Management methodologies.
