Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Employment Specialist I to join our team at Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. This role is responsible for providing business engagement and retention services to employers, as well as job placement services to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Engagement and Retention
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with employers to generate access to employment opportunities for training program graduates.
    • Consistently communicate with assigned employers to ascertain hiring needs, requirements, and preferences to provide qualified candidates to meet their needs.
  • Job Placement Services
    • Provide bi-weekly (unemployed) and monthly (employed) outreach and support services to clients who are seeking employment opportunities and/or maintaining current employment.
    • Engage in one-on-one career preparation services, including reviewing and updating career plans, providing job search assistance, creating and editing resumes and cover letters, interview preparation, and employment onboarding support.
  • Client Support
    • Assist clients in accessing onsite computer labs to encourage job seeking.
    • Provide post-placement support for both employers and program graduates to assist with issues as they arise, promoting long-term job retention.
  • Reporting and Documentation
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation within Goodwill's software systems of every aspect of client engagement, communication, job application status, job placement, and retention.
    • Prepare monthly and annual reports noting progress toward individual, team, and organizational goals.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in human services, human resources, marketing, sales, or a related field is required.
    • Two years of experience in job development, job coaching, job placement, case management, human services, or human resources recruitment is required.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Highly developed written, speaking, listening, and professional communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information to people at various levels of comprehension.
    • Understanding and knowledge of conflict management techniques.
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks with numerous interruptions and limited direct supervision.
    • Exceptional time management skills.
Work Environment

The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service background in staffing services and be able to work closely with other members of a team for common goals. The work environment is a general office setting with limited exposure to outside weather conditions.
