The Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is on the lookout for a talented Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to contribute to the mission of the Space Warfighting Analysis Center/Spectrum Warfare Program (SWAC/SWP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The ideal candidate will possess a robust analytical and technical foundation in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, as well as cloud computing and storage solutions. This role involves both participation in and leadership of daily force design analyses related to GEPS, fiber transport, and cloud computing/storage. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team, including customers, external partners, vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support staff. A successful candidate will also be adept at presenting information to a varied audience, which may include peers, commercial partners, general officers, and senior government officials. Engaging in dynamic technical discussions will be a daily activity. You will work alongside a range of UARC, FFRDC, and SETA contractors to deliver timely analytics and cost-effective solutions to government clients. A strong technical background combined with extensive analytical leadership experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and addresses customer analytical requirements and challenges through direct engagement.
  • Builds and maintains a strong partnership with the SDL Program Manager and customer program management and engineering leadership teams.
  • Directs complex system analytics by coordinating the efforts of multiple engineers with varied specialties towards a unified technical solution.
  • Delivers briefings to industry partners, senior leaders, and general officers on short notice and multiple times throughout the year.
  • Collaborates with the SDL Program Manager to ensure the technical team has well-defined deliverables and deadlines.
  • Maintains team focus on the mission of providing world-class analytics.
  • Works with the SDL Program Manager to identify, monitor, mitigate, and avoid risks.
  • Engages with the SDL Program Manager on matters concerning scope, approach, cost, and schedule trade-offs.
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality analytics on time and within budget.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering systems field, or a Bachelor's degree with significant experience in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing/storage.
  • A minimum of five years of technical analytics experience.
  • Ability to comprehend complex technical issues, translate them into actionable tasks, and guide analytical discussions and decisions.
  • Experience with cloud-based services such as AWS or Azure.
  • Proven experience managing complex analytics development with loosely defined requirements.
  • Ability to establish and sustain effective working relationships in a complex environment with equal partners.
  • Proficiency in task management.
  • Capability to organize and lead a geographically dispersed team, including SDL and subcontractor members.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment while making direct contributions to team success.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Top Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical engineering or science degree.
  • Over 10 years of analytical experience with GEPS, terrestrial data transport, and cloud computing/storage.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies or their equivalents, including VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, Lambda, RDS.
  • AWS Solutions Architect professional certification preferred (equivalent Azure certifications accepted).
  • Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, VPN infrastructure, load balancing, application firewalls, and distributed networks.
  • Experience with Department of Defense technical programs.
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-tempo projects.

Pay range: $120,000 to $200,000.
