The Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is in search of a Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to contribute to the mission of the Space Warfighting Analysis Center/Spectrum Warfare Program (SWAC/SWP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The ideal candidate will possess a robust analytical and technical foundation in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, as well as cloud computing and storage solutions. This role entails active participation and leadership in daily force design analysis for GEPS, fiber transport, and cloud-based systems.

The selected engineer will collaborate within a larger team, engaging with customers, external partners, vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support staff. The candidate should be adept at delivering briefings to a diverse audience, including peers, commercial partners, senior military officials, and government leaders. A significant portion of the role will involve engaging in dynamic technical discussions. The engineer will interface with a varied group of contractors to provide timely analytics and cost-effective solutions to government clients. A solid technical background coupled with extensive analytical leadership experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and address customer analytical needs through direct engagement.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with SDL Program Managers and customer engineering leadership.
  • Lead intricate system analytics by coordinating the efforts of multiple engineers with diverse expertise towards a unified technical solution.
  • Deliver briefings to industry partners and senior leaders on short notice multiple times throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with SDL Program Managers to ensure the technical team has well-defined deliverables and deadlines.
  • Maintain team focus on the mission of providing top-tier analytics.
  • Work with SDL Program Managers to identify, monitor, and mitigate risks.
  • Assist SDL Program Managers in navigating issues related to scope, approach, cost, and schedule.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality analytics within the agreed timeline and budget.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering systems field, or a Bachelor's degree with extensive experience in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing/storage.
  • A minimum of five years of technical analytics experience.
  • Capability to comprehend complex technical challenges, translate them into actionable tasks, and facilitate analytical discussions and decisions.
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure.
  • Proven track record in managing complex analytics development with ambiguous requirements.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships in a complex environment with equal partners.
  • Proficiency in task management.
  • Ability to organize and lead a geographically dispersed team, including SDL and subcontractor members.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment while contributing directly to team success.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Top Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical degree in engineering or science.
  • Over ten years of analytical experience with GEPS, terrestrial data transport, and cloud computing/storage.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies such as VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, Lambda, RDS.
  • AWS Solutions Architect professional certification preferred (equivalent Azure certifications accepted).
  • Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, VPN infrastructure, load balancing, application firewalls, and distributed networks.
  • Experience with Department of Defense technical programs.
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-tempo projects.
