The Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is in search of a skilled Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to contribute to the mission of the Space Warfighting Analysis Center/Spectrum Warfare Program (SWAC/SWP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The ideal candidate will possess a robust analytical and technical foundation in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing and storage solutions. This role involves both participation in and leadership of daily force design analysis related to GEPS, fiber transport, and cloud computing/storage systems.
The selected engineer will collaborate with a diverse team that includes customers, external partners, vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support staff. The successful candidate will also be adept at delivering briefings to a varied audience, including peers, commercial partners, senior military officials, and government leaders. Daily activities will involve engaging in dynamic technical discussions. You will work alongside a diverse group of UARC, FFRDC, and SETA contractors to provide timely analytics and cost-effective solutions to government clients. A strong technical background combined with extensive analytical leadership experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and address customer analytical needs through direct engagement.
- Foster and maintain a strong partnership with the SDL Program Manager and customer program management and engineering leadership teams.
- Lead intricate system analytics by coordinating the efforts of multiple engineers with varied specialties towards a unified technical solution.
- Deliver briefings to industry partners, senior leaders, and military officials on short notice throughout the year.
- Collaborate with the SDL Program Manager to ensure the technical team has clear deliverables and deadlines.
- Keep the team focused on the mission of providing world-class analytics.
- Assist the SDL Program Manager in identifying, tracking, avoiding, and mitigating risks.
- Work with the SDL Program Manager to navigate issues related to scope, approach, cost, and schedule.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality analytics on time and within budget.
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering systems field, or a Bachelor's degree with significant experience in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing/storage.
- A minimum of five years of technical analytics experience.
- Ability to comprehend complex technical challenges, translate them into actionable tasks, and guide analytical discussions and decisions.
- Experience with cloud-based services such as AWS or Azure.
- Proven experience managing complex analytics development with loosely defined requirements.
- Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a complex environment with equal partners.
- Proficiency in task management.
- Ability to organize and lead a geographically dispersed team that includes SDL and subcontractor members.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment while contributing directly to team success.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Top Secret Clearance.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Technical engineering or science degree.
- Over 10 years of analytical experience with GEPS, terrestrial data transport, and cloud computing/storage.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies or their equivalents, including VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, Lambda, RDS.
- AWS Solutions Architect professional certification preferred (equivalent Azure certifications accepted).
- Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, VPN infrastructure, load balancing, application firewalls, and distributed networks.
- Experience with Department of Defense technical programs.
- Demonstrated success in managing high-tempo projects.
