About the Role:

The Admissions Advisor at BASIS Independent Schools provides personalized and dedicated support to our talented high school students as they navigate the college and career planning landscape. Collaborating with school leadership, parents, and faculty, the Admissions Advisor offers guidance and leadership on all facets of the college application process.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver tailored college counseling to students in their junior and senior years throughout the application process.
  2. Compose detailed and personalized letters of recommendation for each senior to support their college applications.
  3. Work closely with each applicant to devise standardized testing plans and application strategies, providing constructive feedback on their essays and applications.
  4. Instruct the College Admissions Course for students in their junior and senior years.
  5. Present on college admissions topics and trends to various audiences, including students, parents, and faculty.
  6. Provide training and support to faculty regarding the writing of recommendation letters.
  7. Collaborate with other members of the college counseling team, faculty, and school administration to share insights and trends in the college admissions landscape.
  8. Engage in college visits and network with admissions officers to stay informed about admissions trends and promote BASIS Independent Schools and its students.
  9. Maintain accurate student records and data while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality regarding student and school information.
  10. Partner with the Director of College Advisory and other college counselors within the network to exchange best practices and foster continuous improvement.
  11. Support the broader mission of BASIS and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree (or higher) is preferred.

Experience:
Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of two years of experience in college counseling or admissions. Familiarity with highly selective college admissions processes is preferred.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with comfort in public speaking.
  • Outstanding writing abilities and a positive demeanor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Passion for building positive relationships with high school students and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn the SCOIR college search and application platform.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a collaborative and innovative team environment.
