ROLE SUMMARY
The Test Engineer is tasked with executing Phase 5 (Assembly & Electrical) and Phase 6 (Testing) activities on the 47C Motor LifeBoat. Responsibilities in Phase 5 encompass tightening bolts, troubleshooting electrical connections, and performing in-plant tests as per contractual obligations. Phase 6 includes dockside and underway tests to fulfill Preliminary Acceptance Trials standards. These responsibilities require a high degree of technical proficiency in areas such as electrical systems, hydraulics, mechanical components, and diesel engines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Test Engineer will:

  • Identify and correct any production defects to uphold outstanding build quality standards.
  • Evaluate and communicate identified issues to production personnel, ensuring necessary process modifications are enacted for future prevention.
  • Supervise non-conformance and corrective actions, identifying root causes and formulating action plans.
  • Conduct sea trials of USCG vessels, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and safety criteria outlined in contracts.
  • Develop custom testing configurations in the production facility to facilitate testing of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Refine existing test plans for onboard systems, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with various teams and vendors to troubleshoot issues and improve vessel performance and safety.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing results and activities, capable of conducting tests under diverse environmental conditions.
  • Contribute to design reviews to ensure vessels meet contract specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard testing practices and methodologies.
  • Expertise in conducting complex testing and troubleshooting across various systems.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in Marine Engineering or related testing roles.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and familiarity with shipboard operations.
  • Experience with DOD and US Navy testing, ABS regulations, and marine law.
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications for developing written test procedures.
  • Capacity to work in demanding environments and manage stress effectively.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Awareness of OSHA requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal manufacturing conditions apply, with exposure to typical workplace elements.

  • Physical demands include lifting weights and engaging in various movements.
  • The role requires computer use, physical activity, and mobility on vessels.
  • Occasional work in manufacturing environments and onboard vessels is anticipated.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Test Engineer may receive additional guidance from senior management.
