ROLE SUMMARY
The Test Engineer is tasked with executing critical phases of assembly and testing for the 47C Motor LifeBoat. Responsibilities in the assembly phase include securing components, diagnosing electrical issues, and performing in-plant evaluations as per contractual obligations. The testing phase encompasses both dockside and operational trials to fulfill Preliminary Acceptance Trials criteria. These responsibilities require advanced technical knowledge in electrical systems, hydraulics, mechanical parts, and diesel engines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Test Engineer will:

  • Identify and correct any production discrepancies to uphold superior build quality.
  • Evaluate and relay identified challenges to production teams, ensuring necessary adjustments are made to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage non-conformance and corrective measures, identifying root causes and formulating action plans.
  • Conduct sea trials of USCG vessels, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and safety standards outlined in contracts.
  • Develop tailored testing configurations in the production environment to facilitate the assessment of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Refine existing testing protocols for onboard systems, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with various teams and suppliers to troubleshoot issues and improve vessel performance and safety.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing results and activities, capable of executing tests under diverse environmental conditions.
  • Participate in design evaluations to ensure vessels meet contractual specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical skills complemented by excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard testing methodologies and practices.
  • Expertise in executing complex testing and troubleshooting across various systems.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in Marine Engineering or related testing positions.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, with an understanding of shipboard operations.
  • Experience with DOD and US Navy testing, ABS regulations, and maritime law.
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications for the development of written testing procedures.
  • Capacity to perform in challenging environments and manage stress effectively.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all tasks to ensure safety.

  • Adhere to quality control systems and engage in performance evaluations.
  • Participate in fitness-for-work initiatives as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical manufacturing conditions apply, with exposure to standard workplace elements.

  • Physical requirements include lifting and performing various movements.
  • The role necessitates computer usage, physical activity, and mobility on vessels.
  • Occasional work in manufacturing settings and onboard vessels is anticipated.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Test Engineer may receive additional guidance from senior management.
