The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and precise preparation of monthly journal entries and financial reporting. This position also involves managing receivable payments and overseeing the collection process. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will assist the Controller with monthly closing procedures, annual audits, budgeting, forecasting, and various accounting tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Finance Department and organizational staff to ensure accurate and timely records of business activities that align with the mission, vision, and values of CORA Services.
Monthly/Annual Close
  • Prepare monthly workpapers for the Controller's approval and assist in reconciliation efforts to ensure accuracy.
  • Review and prepare journal entries for the Controller's approval.
  • Support the monthly closing and invoicing processes, along with quarterly and annual closing activities.
Cash/Asset Management
  • Record assets acquired for specific departments/programs in the fixed assets module and manage depreciation entries.
  • Prepare and enter cash deposits while assisting in the review of daily bank balances.
  • Prepare and record bank-related journal entries, maintaining supporting documentation for banking activities and statements.
  • Record and apply payments through the accounts receivable module of Financial Edge Blackbaud software.
Payroll:
  • Verify bi-weekly payroll journal entries for accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to review and maintain payroll reporting.
  • Work closely with the Controller to reconcile payroll accounts for accurate monthly and quarterly reporting.
  • Process payroll in the absence of the Payroll Manager.
Budgets/Forecasts:
  • Assist in the preparation of budget and forecast reports for departments and programs.
  • Support the maintenance of the budget within financial systems.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly reports used for budget analysis and review; implement corrective adjustments as necessary.
Audit:
  • Assist in the annual financial audit and preparation of the 990 form.
  • Provide necessary information and support during the annual audit process.
  • Prepare information as requested for funders during program audits.
Other:
  • Collaborate closely with the Controller to uphold best practices in daily financial operations.
  • Provide administrative support for financial software applications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required. CPA, CMA, or MBA is preferred.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting or related experience is required.
  • Experience in not-for-profit, mission-driven organizations is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with accounting and financial software packages; familiarity with Financial Edge and UKG is preferred.
  • Experience with medical billing is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality is crucial.
  • Strong time management and analytical skills, with a focus on process improvement, are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with staff at all levels, as well as clients, visitors, vendors, interns, and peers from other organizations.
