Position Type: Support Staff (Classroom) / Educational Support Technician

Purpose Statement: The role of the Educational Support Technician is essential for aiding in the supervision and instruction of students with mild to moderate disabilities under the guidance of a certified educator. This position involves observing and documenting student progress, implementing instructional plans, and addressing special health care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapt classroom activities and materials under the teacher's direction to ensure all special education students can engage in learning.
  • Assist related services personnel as needed to support physical, occupational, or speech therapy routines.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to special education students with classroom tasks and daily living skills, fostering a positive approach to behavior management.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop tailored strategies that reinforce skills based on individual student needs and interests.
  • Implement academic instruction for individuals or small groups, aligned with IEP goals and district benchmarks.
  • Execute behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavioral challenges, ensuring a consistent and supportive environment.
  • Instruct students in various subjects and skills, including math, reading, and daily living skills, to promote their success.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student records to ensure accessibility and reliability of information.
  • Monitor students during various activities to create a safe and encouraging learning atmosphere.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting for compliance with educational programs.
  • Perform clerical tasks and record-keeping to support the educational process.
  • Respond to emergencies to ensure student safety.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to evaluate student progress and implement IEP objectives.

Qualifications:

Skills: Ability to perform various non-technical tasks, adhere to safety practices, and operate standard office equipment. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records is essential.

Knowledge: Basic understanding of math, instructional procedures, and child development is required.

Abilities: Flexibility to work with diverse individuals, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are crucial.

Working Environment: The position requires physical stamina, including lifting and moving, and is typically performed in a safe and clean environment.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with relevant job-related experience.

Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification and a criminal background clearance are mandatory.
