Purpose Statement:
The Educational Support Technician plays a vital role in assisting students with special needs within both mainstream and specialized educational settings, working closely under the supervision of a licensed educator. This position involves adapting assignments and resources while providing necessary support for health and behavioral needs.Key Responsibilities:
- Offer individualized support to special education students across various tasks.
- Assist in implementing effective strategies to address student challenges and behaviors.
- Adjust classroom activities and resources to facilitate the involvement of all special education students.
- Collaborate with educators to assess student progress and fulfill Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
- Support the application of therapeutic routines and strategies as instructed by therapists.
- Provide academic assistance for individuals or small groups to achieve educational objectives.
- Execute behavioral plans established by the IEP team.
- Maintain instructional materials, student records, and documentation.
- Supervise students during various activities to ensure a secure learning environment.
- Participate in data collection and reporting for program compliance.
- Perform clerical tasks to support teaching staff.
- Respond to emergencies to address immediate safety issues.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist colleagues as required.
- Attend professional development meetings and training sessions.
- Carry out other assigned duties as necessary.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Skills: Adherence to safety protocols, operation of office equipment, and record maintenance. Knowledge: Fundamental mathematics, reading comprehension, document preparation, and problem-solving. Abilities: Organize activities, engage with diverse individuals, resolve issues, and uphold confidentiality.
Responsibility:
Work under guidance, provide information, and operate within budgetary constraints.
Working Environment:
This role requires physical activities such as lifting, carrying, bending, and fine motor skills. Involves periods of sitting, walking, and standing. The environment is generally clean and free from hazards.
Experience:
Relevant job experience is necessary.Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.Required Testing:
Documentation of a negative TB test is required within six months of employment.Continuing Education/Training:
- Annual CPR Training
- CPR/First Aid Recertification every two years
- Completion of designated Staff Development training.
Certificates & Licenses:
CPR/First Aid Certification is mandatory.Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance is required.FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt.Salary Grade:
