Position Overview:
The role of the Educational Support Specialist is essential for assisting in the supervision and instruction of both regular and special needs students under the guidance of a certified educator in a special education setting. This position involves observing and documenting student progress, executing instructional plans, and providing administrative support to the teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Modify classroom activities, assignments, and materials as directed by the teacher to ensure all special education students can engage in learning experiences.
  • Regularly collaborate with teachers to assess special education student progress and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.
  • Work under the guidance of therapists to support the implementation of therapy routines and strategies.
  • Deliver academic instruction as directed by the teacher to individuals or small groups, focusing on achieving learning objectives outlined in IEPs and district standards.
  • Execute behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavioral challenges to meet their unique needs and maintain a consistent learning environment.
  • Instruct special education students in various subjects and skills (e.g., mathematics, science, reading, daily living skills) to support their academic growth and success.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student records to ensure the availability of resources and accurate information.
  • Supervise special education students during various activities (e.g., lunch, recess) to promote a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting for compliance with the Direct Service Claiming (DSC) program.
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical tasks to assist the teacher in maintaining necessary documentation.
  • Respond to emergency situations to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Additional Duties:
  • Support colleagues as needed to facilitate the completion of their responsibilities.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to enhance job-related knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:
Skills and Knowledge:
The candidate should possess the ability to perform various non-technical tasks and adapt to changing job conditions. Key skills include adherence to safety protocols, proficiency in using standard office equipment and software, and maintaining accurate records. Knowledge of instructional practices, child development, and conflict resolution is essential.

Abilities:
The role requires effective scheduling, data management, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals. Flexibility, communication skills, and the capacity to maintain confidentiality are crucial.

Working Environment:
The position involves occasional physical demands, including lifting and moving materials, and is typically performed in a safe and supportive environment.

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Relevant experience in an educational setting is preferred.

Certifications:
CPR/First Aid certification is necessary, along with a criminal background clearance.
