Educational Support Technician at Gilbert Public Schools District
Purpose Statement:
The Educational Support Technician plays a crucial role in assisting students with special needs within both mainstream and specialized educational settings, working closely under the supervision of a licensed educator. This position involves tailoring assignments and resources to meet individual student requirements and providing support for health and behavioral needs.Key Responsibilities:
- Offer personalized assistance to students with special needs across various tasks.
- Help implement effective strategies to positively address student challenges and behaviors.
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to promote the engagement of all students with special needs.
- Collaborate with educators to assess student progress and execute Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
- Assist in the implementation of therapeutic routines and strategies as guided by therapy professionals.
- Support academic instruction for individuals or small groups to achieve educational objectives.
- Enforce behavioral plans developed by the IEP team.
- Maintain instructional materials, student records, and documentation.
- Supervise students during various activities to ensure a secure learning environment.
- Participate in data collection and reporting for program compliance.
- Perform clerical tasks to assist educators.
- Respond to emergencies to address immediate safety issues.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist colleagues as required.
- Attend professional development meetings and training sessions.
- Carry out other assigned duties as necessary.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Skills: Adhere to safety protocols, operate office equipment, and maintain accurate records. Knowledge: Basic arithmetic, reading comprehension, document writing, and problem-solving. Abilities: Organize activities, interact with diverse individuals, resolve issues, and uphold confidentiality.
Responsibility:
Work under supervision, provide relevant information, and operate within budgetary constraints.
Working Environment:
This role involves physical demands such as lifting, carrying, bending, and fine motor skills. It includes sitting, walking, and standing, typically in a clean and hazard-free environment.
Experience:
Relevant job experience is required.Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.Required Testing:
Documentation of a negative TB test is required within six months of employment.Continuing Education/Training:
- Annual CPR Training
- CPR/First Aid Recertification every two years
- Completion of designated Staff Development coursework.
Certificates & Licenses:
CPR/First Aid Certification is required.Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance is mandatory.FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt.Salary Grade:
