The Environmental Sustainability Manager at UnitedHealth Group will work under the guidance of the Environmental Sustainability Lead within the ESG team. This team holds strategic responsibility for the company's ESG initiatives and collaborates across the organization to devise and implement strategies aimed at fostering a sustainable health system. As part of the ESG team, the Environmental Sustainability Manager will play a crucial role in supporting UnitedHealth Group's environmental commitments and reporting, as well as overseeing the execution of initiatives designed to reduce our ecological footprint.

You will have the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. while tackling significant challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing and maintaining UHG's comprehensive strategy for a multi-faceted approach to reducing our environmental impact.
- Evaluate all non-real estate categories of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (e.g., medical gases, aviation, employee commuting).
- Collaborate with real estate, procurement, and treasury data owners to establish thorough GHG emissions performance tracking that fulfills operational, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor progress against milestones and metrics toward achieving enterprise environmental objectives through a multi-year roadmap, transition plan, and scorecards.
- Identify target areas for external reporting on the environmental impact of improved care and health outcomes (e.g., value-based care, telehealth).
- Prepare executive presentations and board updates on environmental initiatives and performance.
- Support the implementation of organizational policies, programs, and practices that address environmental risks and opportunities.
- Track the enterprise impact of changes related to the Science Based Target initiative, emissions reporting methodologies, evolving environmental regulations, and reporting trends.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience in supporting or managing the collection, analysis, and disclosure of environmental data, including carbon accounting certification or substantial experience in Greenhouse Gas emissions data and performance management.
- 1+ years of experience with environmental disclosure regulations (e.g., California laws, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting, UK disclosure requirements, SEC Final Rule on Climate Related Disclosures, TCFD/ISSB).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint presentation development.
- Demonstrated success in effective project management.
