Job Overview

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a robust safety culture within the organization. This individual is tasked with mentoring, coaching, and training personnel to uphold superior standards of environmental, health, and safety compliance. Utilizing analytical expertise, they will implement prevention and mitigation strategies to minimize risks, while managing a diverse array of responsibilities on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive the ownership and integration of sustainable EHS management systems.
  • Advise leadership on strategic safety goals and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Develop and oversee health and safety enhancement initiatives and daily operations.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal management system standards.
  • Conduct training on safety risk management, DOT regulations, security protocols, and environmental compliance.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Examine all auto accidents, general liability claims, and other legal actions involving the company.
  • Manage worker's compensation, auto, and general liability risk exposures in accordance with established standards.
  • Participate in worker's compensation hearings, small claims court, and litigation as necessary.
  • Perform audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Compile and report safety, DOT security, and environmental statistics as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Track and deliver training programs, including behavioral leadership training.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Obtain necessary certificates of insurance.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of occupational safety and health administration standards and transportation regulations.
  • Familiarity with insurance principles, including property, workers compensation, general liability, and auto liability.
  • Working knowledge of government regulations such as OSHA, CUPA, and EPA.
  • Knowledge of DPO/VPO/LCP standards.
  • Adaptability to change and proficiency in leading change management initiatives.
  • Ability to work various shifts and provide on-call support outside regular hours.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, environmental affairs, or supervisory roles.
  • Experience in compliance and safety management.
  • Background in managing workers compensation claims.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to regularly lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness to remain on feet for extended periods, involving standing or walking.
  • Requires focused mental engagement to manage complex tasks that demand attention to detail.
