The Safety and Compliance Manager will be responsible for creating a culture of safety that resonates throughout the company. This subject matter expert will inspire, coach, mentor, and train employees while guiding them toward achieving exceptional environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement sustainable EHS management systems to drive ownership and integration.
- Provide guidance to leadership regarding strategic safety objectives and regulatory compliance issues.
- Develop health and safety improvement initiatives and manage daily operations.
- Ensure regulatory and internal management system compliance.
- Conduct safety risk management, DOT, security, and environmental training and education, including compliance with federal and state occupational safety and health administration, environmental protection standards, federal motor carrier safety regulations/department of transportation regulations, security policies, and company policy.
- Direct activities to conduct investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective measures for safety incidents.
- Investigate all auto accidents, general liability claims, and other actions filed against the company.
- Oversee worker's compensation, auto, and general liability risk exposure, following established standards.
- Attend worker's compensation hearings, small claims court proceedings, litigation trials, and interrogatories as required.
- Perform safety, insurance, environmental, DOT, security, and environmental audits and inspections to comply with all company, federal, state, county, and city requirements.
- Review, compile, and report safety, DOT security, and environmental statistics as required by zone, local, state, and federal agencies.
- Track, monitor, and deliver training, including behavioral leadership training.
- Ensure compliance with DOT requirements.
- Obtain certificates of insurance.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health administration standards as well as transportation regulations and related risk management standards.
- Working knowledge of insurance, including property, workers compensation, general liability, and auto liability.
- Working knowledge of government regulations (i.e., OSHA CUPA, EPA, etc.).
- DPO/VPO/LCP Knowledge.
- Comfortable with change, and the ability to lead change management.
- Ability to work all shifts and provide 'on-call' coverage outside work hours and some weekends and holidays.
- Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related field.
- 5 years of risk management, environmental affairs, and/or supervisory experience.
- Compliance and safety experience.
- Workers compensation claim management experience.
- Regularly lift objects up to 25 pounds and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Expect to be on your feet a lot, either standing or walking throughout the day.
- Requires a good amount of mental focus to handle complex tasks that need concentrated effort and attention to detail.
