The Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor is a key figure in fostering a safety-oriented culture within the organization. This role involves mentoring, coaching, and training personnel to uphold exemplary standards in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance. Utilizing analytical capabilities, the supervisor will implement prevention and mitigation strategies to minimize risks, engaging in a diverse array of responsibilities on a daily basis. Communication of EHS matters to both management and staff is essential, alongside the escalation of issues related to incident management, injuries, and regulatory inspections.

Key Responsibilities

Promote ownership and integration of sustainable EHS management systems. Advise leadership on strategic safety goals and compliance with regulations. Design and implement health and safety enhancement initiatives while overseeing daily operations. Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal management system standards. Facilitate training and education on safety risk management, DOT regulations, and environmental compliance. Lead investigations into incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Examine all auto accidents and liability claims against the organization. Manage worker's compensation, auto, and general liability risk exposures according to established protocols. Participate in hearings and legal proceedings related to worker's compensation and claims. Conduct audits and inspections for safety, insurance, and environmental compliance with all applicable regulations. Compile and report on safety and environmental statistics as required by local, state, and federal authorities. Monitor and deliver training programs, including behavioral leadership training. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations. Acquire certificates of insurance as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with occupational safety and health administration standards and transportation regulations. Proficient understanding of insurance matters, including property and liability. Knowledge of governmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA). Understanding of DPO/VPO/LCP principles. Adaptability to change and capability to lead change management initiatives. Willingness to work various shifts and provide on-call support as needed. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Education, Training, and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management or environmental affairs. Proven experience in compliance and safety management. Experience in managing workers' compensation claims.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Expectation to remain on feet for extended periods, involving walking and standing. Requires significant mental focus to manage complex tasks with attention to detail.
