Job Overview

The EHS Compliance Leader serves as a pivotal figure in fostering a robust safety culture within the organization. This role is dedicated to mentoring, training, and guiding employees towards achieving exemplary standards in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance. Utilizing analytical expertise, the leader will implement prevention and mitigation strategies to minimize risks, balancing a diverse array of responsibilities on a daily basis.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive the integration and ownership of sustainable EHS management systems.
  • Advise leadership on strategic safety goals and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Design and oversee health and safety enhancement initiatives while managing daily operations.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal management system requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive training on safety risk management, DOT regulations, and environmental compliance, in line with federal and state standards.
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Examine all vehicle accidents, liability claims, and other actions against the organization.
  • Manage risk exposure related to worker's compensation, auto, and general liability, following established protocols.
  • Participate in hearings and legal proceedings related to worker's compensation and liability claims as necessary.
  • Perform audits and inspections for safety, insurance, environmental, and DOT compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Compile and report on safety, DOT security, and environmental statistics as required by various agencies.
  • Monitor and deliver training programs, including behavioral leadership development.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Acquire necessary certificates of insurance.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of occupational safety and health administration standards, as well as transportation regulations and risk management practices.
  • Familiarity with insurance matters, including property, workers' compensation, general liability, and auto liability.
  • Knowledge of government regulations (e.g., OSHA, CUPA, EPA).
  • Understanding of DPO/VPO/LCP standards.
  • Adaptability to change and capability to lead change management initiatives.
  • Availability to work various shifts and provide on-call support outside of regular hours.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, environmental affairs, or supervisory roles.
  • Experience in compliance and safety management.
  • Background in managing workers' compensation claims.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly lift items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Be prepared to remain on foot for extended periods, involving standing or walking throughout the day.
  • Maintain a high level of mental focus to manage complex tasks requiring detailed attention.
