POSITION SUMMARY
TRC Companies, Inc.

is looking for a seasoned full-time Biology Group Manager/Team Lead to enhance our Permitting, Planning, and Licensing team.

Responsibilities

The role demands a robust technical foundation and a proven track record in fostering and sustaining key client relationships. Responsibilities include:
  • Leading a team of biologists/ecologists, overseeing task assignments, personnel placement, and addressing technical inquiries.
  • Guiding field personnel in biological assessments of riparian zones and nesting sites during critical seasons.
  • Collaborating with program managers on strategic initiatives as necessary.
  • Conducting quality assurance reviews of data collected by field biologists.
  • Coordinating with project managers and senior management in a fast-paced office setting.
  • Participating in weekly client meetings and following up on assigned responsibilities.
  • Providing expertise and direction to field staff concerning threatened and endangered species.
  • Drafting reports and other technical documentation.
  • Executing tasks as directed by senior management related to strategic initiatives and program forecasting.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, or a related discipline, along with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in California's special status species, including but not limited to: desert tortoise, southwestern willow flycatcher, and Mojave fringe-toed lizard.

Ideal candidates will have experience in construction monitoring and oversight.
Travel throughout California will be necessary for project-specific biological support.
Candidates must demonstrate experience in personnel management, directing technical staff, engaging with clients, agencies, and contractors, and managing timelines.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently are essential.
Knowledge of environmental compliance and permitting regulations from relevant regulatory bodies in California is required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain a positive demeanor under tight deadlines.

Ability to produce clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials is necessary.
Familiarity with CESA and FESA review processes, habitat restoration, and Lake and Streambed Programs is advantageous.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


10-15 years of experience as a permit biologist providing scientific and management guidance in species conservation, habitat management, and wildlife permit processing in California is preferred.

Knowledge of California's native flora and fauna, including species protection and listings under CESA and FESA, is beneficial.
Experience with species-specific handling permits and knowledge of California's threatened and endangered species is a plus.
Understanding of GIS applications relevant to environmental projects is advantageous.

Experience in drafting biological resource sections for CEQA and NEPA documents, Biological Assessments, and other technical reports is preferred.

Experience in organizing and facilitating public meetings to communicate environmental impacts and routing decisions is beneficial.

Experience in evaluating projects for environmental impacts, necessary permitting processes, and potential risks is essential.

Compensation :

In accordance with local regulations, the salary range for this position is as follows:

Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:

Employees may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators.

Salary Range

USD $100,000 - $127,337.00 /Yr.
