Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather system requirements and develop comprehensive specifications, including drawing packages and software for PLC and DAQ systems.
  • Leverage technical expertise to design, develop, and validate advanced testing systems for powertrains, including combustion engines, transmissions, electric motors, battery systems, and inverters.


Job Duties Include:

Creating detailed hardware and system documentation such as specifications, schematics, DAQ definitions, and BOMs.
Designing custom hardware solutions both independently and collaboratively.
Identifying beneficial hardware tools and techniques for project success.
Researching and selecting potential system components.
Managing all hardware and system documentation efficiently.

Support the automation design team across various projects related to powertrain and vehicle/component development, from initial concept through detailed design, manufacturing, and commissioning phases.

Engage with clients to ascertain design requirements and specifications for projects, participating in regular design reviews to ensure compliance with those requirements.

Conduct projects with a high degree of professionalism, consistently meeting or exceeding client technical and timeline expectations while adhering to predefined budget constraints.

Deliver a final drawing package that meets customer specifications and industry standards.
Diagnose and resolve design and manufacturing challenges in collaboration with the Project Manager and Manufacturing Team.
Support engineering decisions with data and thorough engineering analysis.



Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in automation design, including electrical, pneumatic, and fluid systems.
  • Experience interfacing with clients, engineers, and technical project managers to establish hardware requirements, timelines, and budgets.
  • Proficiency in designing analog and digital I/O circuitry.
  • Strong debugging skills, including the use of logic analyzers, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including xLOOKUP, conditional formatting, charts, and data validation.
  • Knowledge of NEC (specifically chapters 2, 3 & 7), NFPA 79 & UL 508A.
  • Understanding of wire gauges and fuse/circuit breaker sizing, as well as grounding and bonding principles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Coordinate effectively with other departments such as Project Management, Manufacturing, and Procurement to ensure timely acquisition and assembly of components to meet project timelines and budgets.
