Position Objective:
The Assistant Manager of Environmental Affairs plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Grasping Health, Safety, Environmental, ResponsibleSteel, and Quality initiatives while formulating or executing strategies to tackle challenges and integrate them into the operational framework.
2) Familiarity with ResponsibleSteel standards aimed at minimizing environmental impacts and enhancing energy efficiency, addressing concerns of local communities and stakeholders, and preserving biodiversity.
3) Aid in the creation, execution, and revision of necessary written environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
4) Oversee the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and lead cross-functional teams and audits, serving as the Environmental Management Representative (EMR) for the company.
5) Administer the U.S. EPA RCRA and DOT compliance programs across the site, including timely governmental reporting and the coordination or development of employee training materials.
6) Maintain essential environmental compliance documentation, training records, and files.
7) Organize annual air emissions testing and reporting.
8) Engage in project management and initiatives aimed at cost reduction.
9) Oversee the solid waste and recycling initiatives.
10) Contribute to other ISO systems and support new certification efforts.
11) Conduct impact assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental risks and financial implications.
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
2) Comprehensive understanding of EPA and DOT regulations and practices, including government reporting requirements.
3) Proficient knowledge of OSHA regulations concerning hazardous materials and environmental standards.
4) Ability to utilize systems for effective problem-solving.
5) Capable of managing projects and delivering presentations effectively.
6) Strong verbal, written, and analytical abilities.
7) Capacity to train, influence, and motivate team members.
8) Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
9) Able to contribute positively as part of a team, assisting with various tasks as needed.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role may require the employee to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. A valid driver's license is required, along with occasional travel. This position designates the employee as the primary environmental emergency responder, which may involve irregular hours due to the nature of incidents or working under stressful, fast-paced, and/or adverse weather conditions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does include supervisory duties.
