Position Objective:
The Assistant Manager of Environmental Affairs aids the organization and its personnel in adhering to local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Grasping Health, Safety, Environmental, ResponsibleSteel, and Quality initiatives while formulating or executing strategies to tackle challenges and integrating them into the operational framework.
2) Familiarity with ResponsibleSteel standards aimed at minimizing environmental impacts and energy consumption, addressing community and stakeholder concerns, and preserving biodiversity.
3) Assist in the creation, execution, and revision of necessary written environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
4) Lead the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and cross-functional teams, conducting relevant audits as the Company's Environmental Management Representative (EMR).
5) Oversee the U.S. EPA RCRA and DOT compliance programs across the site, ensuring timely governmental reporting and the development of employee training materials.
6) Maintain essential environmental compliance documentation, training records, and files.
7) Coordinate annual air emissions testing and reporting.
8) Engage in project management and cost-reduction initiatives.
9) Manage the solid waste and recycling initiatives.
10) Contribute to other ISO systems and support new certification efforts.
11) Conduct impact assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental risks and financial implications.
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
2) Comprehensive understanding of EPA and DOT regulations and practices, including governmental reporting.
3) Proficient knowledge of OSHA guidelines and regulations concerning hazardous materials and environmental standards.
4) Ability to employ systems for effective problem-solving.
5) Capable of managing projects and delivering presentations effectively.
6) Strong verbal, written, and analytical capabilities.
7) Ability to train, influence, and inspire team members.
8) Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
9) Able to contribute positively as part of a team, assisting with various tasks as needed.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role may occasionally require the employee to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. A valid driver's license is required, along with occasional travel. This position designates the employee as the primary environmental emergency responder, which may involve irregular hours due to the nature of incidents or working under stressful and fast-paced conditions.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position includes supervisory responsibilities.
