Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Inspector III to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the work of contractors and other inspectors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for VDOT roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance projects of routine to highly complex nature.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and observe specialized and complex field work, including excavations, pile driving, storm drain installation, asphalt road surfaces, pile driving, complex rebar and construction field drawings, demolition, grading, tunnel boring operations, and other specialized civil construction works.
  • Review and inspect asphalt and concrete roadways and bridge decks.
  • Review and inspect complex detailed heavy reinforcing steel and forms prior to concrete placement and signs pour card.
  • Review lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment.
  • Oversee and enforce the installation of erosion/siltation controls.
  • Oversee and enforce temporary traffic control zones and traffic control devices.
  • Prepare check lists and test reports for work activities.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or applicable field.
  • 4 - 8 years of experience required.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Accurately records and reports daily forms per project requirements.
  • Communicates effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisor.
  • Proactively resolves problems at the lowest level.
  • Adheres to project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Reviews all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting.
  • Submits accurate time sheets, mileage and expense reports on time each week.
  • Reviews jobsite safety daily and takes immediate action to document and resolve issues.
  • Understands OSHA Safety Standards and KCI corporate policies and follows them at all times.
  • Maintains all required certifications and participates in training courses as required.
  • Understands all applicable industry standards for project and performs all tasks per standards and client requirements.
