Position Overview: Staff RN III-CS

The Staff RN III-CS is responsible for managing the care of a designated group of patients, adhering to the philosophy and policies of Northside Hospital. Our nursing practice emphasizes collaboration, communication, coordination, integration, and empowerment.

Staff RN positions at Northside are structured to reflect a progression from novice to expert. Each level, from Staff RN I to Staff RN VI, signifies a nurse's comprehensive knowledge, skills, competencies, and critical thinking abilities. The Staff RN III-CS role encompasses all responsibilities of Staff RN I and II, along with additional specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit proficiency in clinical practice; independently set goals for managing complex patient cases and families; adeptly apply the nursing process while adjusting care to evolving patient conditions.
  • Deliver safe and competent patient care; stay informed about current patient care protocols; maintain effective communication with peers, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
  • Independently execute the nursing process for patients and families; incorporate evidence-based practice resources into clinical care.
  • Demonstrate competence and safety in utilizing unit-based patient care technology; proficiently navigate the organization's computerized information systems; continually enhance personal practice skills and knowledge.
  • Delegate care appropriately when necessary.
  • Act as a mentor for new staff and students.
  • Establish personal objectives for ongoing education and professional development.
  • Conduct self-evaluations of performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Recognize ethical dilemmas in practice and take appropriate measures.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Utilize evidence-based guidelines and policies to inform professional practice.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and activities aimed at patient safety and quality metrics; contribute to ongoing readiness efforts.
  • Serve as an advanced user and resource for clinical systems.
  • Complete training for clinical systems applications.
  • Support system initiatives and manage downtime effectively.
  • Act as a liaison with the Clinical Systems Department and Patient Care Quality Department regarding unit-based clinical systems processes or improvement suggestions.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and current RN licensure in the State of Georgia in good standing.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time nursing experience post-orientation or residency training.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
    • Additional required certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.) may vary by unit. Please consult the specific clinical unit for details.
  • Refer to the specific clinical unit for any additional educational requirements, competencies, or certifications necessary for employment.
  • Compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) personnel qualifications for non-waived point of care testing as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 493, Subpart M.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • National Certification in a Clinical Specialty is preferred.

Emergency Department Specifics:

  • Obtain ACLS certification within one year of employment and renew according to national standards.
  • Maintain advanced assessment skills for a range of emergent and non-emergent conditions.
  • Provide care for patients across various age groups and acuity levels, including multiple injuries, myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accidents, obstetric emergencies, and other medical/surgical conditions.
  • Perform triage, assess acuity, and implement individualized care plans.
