Position Overview

Our Commitment: Since its inception, our organization has dedicated itself to bridging the gap between individuals and the rich tapestry of natural history and cultural heritage.

This is a full-time role, focused on supporting the deinstallation of exhibition halls and the preparation of new displays. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with teams involved in the management and preservation of collections, specifically focusing on Anthropology. Responsibilities will include assisting with object handling, documentation, and data management, as well as supporting research initiatives and community engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the careful deinstallation and relocation of collections from designated exhibition areas.
  • Handle and document a selection of artifacts, ensuring accurate photographic records are maintained.
  • Organize, inventory, and catalog collections while adhering to best practices in collections care.
  • Conduct thorough inventories and assist in reintegrating de-installed items back into storage.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory database, ensuring accuracy and integrity of information.
  • Facilitate visits from researchers and community representatives, providing necessary support.
  • Document insights from research visits and collaborate with community representatives to record traditional knowledge.
  • Enhance storage conditions for collections through preventive conservation measures.
  • Respond to inquiries from various stakeholders, including curators and the public.
  • Support community engagement efforts, which may include offsite activities.
  • Assist with the processing of new acquisitions, including correspondence and documentation.
  • Monitor collections for any signs of deterioration and participate in preventive care initiatives.
  • Oversee volunteers and interns engaged in collections activities.
  • Perform additional tasks related to collections management as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Anthropology or Museum Studies; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in museum collections management or registration.
  • Proven experience in the respectful handling of collection items.
  • Familiarity with databases and museum cataloging practices.
  • Experience in museum photography and post-production editing.
  • Knowledge of material culture from diverse regions is highly valued.
  • Physical capability to handle strenuous tasks related to collections management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with a wide range of individuals.
  • Willingness to adhere to established procedures and guidelines.
  • In-depth understanding of museum collections care practices is essential.
  • Proficiency in software applications relevant to collections management.
