Job Overview

The Hunton Group is actively seeking a Cost Estimation Specialist to contribute to our dynamic operations. In this position, the successful candidate will take charge of evaluating project requirements, generating precise cost assessments for materials and equipment, pinpointing cost-reduction strategies, and working closely with the Sales division to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calculate cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, and other construction-related expenses to assist Account Managers in project bidding and pricing.
  • Analyze project specifications and blueprints, leveraging extensive knowledge of the construction sector to produce accurate cost estimates.
  • Identify and price suitable equipment in alignment with project specifications.
  • Conduct take-offs and pricing assessments for purchased equipment, ensuring accuracy in quantity, size, and other specifications.
  • Create comprehensive preliminary and final proposals, detailing scope, exceptions, and exclusions.
  • Spot potential cost-saving opportunities and risks across various projects.
  • Support the sales and fulfillment teams in developing necessary equipment submittals.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and innovations to maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Negotiate effectively with vendors and subcontractors to optimize job costs and secure competitive quotes for materials and services.
  • Document all activities meticulously, maintaining organized files for each project.
  • Verify and validate vendor quotes for accuracy and reliability.
  • Lead pre-bid meetings and implement necessary adjustments as required.
  • May oversee specific in-house accounts independently.
  • Exhibit flexibility to work additional hours and weekends as project demands dictate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications proficiently.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities.
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices and materials.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong capacity for accurate cost estimation.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for cost estimation and project management.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience in conducting pre-bid meetings and vendor negotiations is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, engineering, or construction management; or an associate degree in engineering or engineering technology with at least 8 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred working knowledge of Trane HVAC equipment.
