The Hunton Group is actively seeking a Cost Estimation Specialist to contribute to our dynamic operations. This role involves evaluating project requirements, generating precise cost assessments for materials and equipment, pinpointing potential savings, and collaborating with the Sales department to ensure projects are completed within specified timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Calculate cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in project bidding and pricing.
- Analyze project specifications and blueprints to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Select and evaluate suitable equipment based on project specifications.
- Conduct take-offs and pricing assessments for purchased equipment to ensure accuracy in specifications.
- Create comprehensive preliminary and final proposals, detailing scope, exceptions, and exclusions.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and assess risk factors across multiple projects.
- Support the sales and fulfillment teams in preparing equipment submittals as required.
- Stay informed on industry trends and innovations to maintain a competitive advantage.
- Negotiate effectively with vendors and subcontractors to optimize job costs and secure competitive quotes.
- Document all project-related work meticulously to maintain accurate records.
- Validate vendor quotes for accuracy and reliability.
- Facilitate pre-bid meetings and implement necessary adjustments.
- Manage specific in-house accounts as needed.
- Exhibit flexibility to work overtime and weekends based on project demands.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities.
- Familiarity with construction industry practices and materials.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accurate cost estimation.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Proficiency in relevant software for cost estimation and project management.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in conducting pre-bid meetings and vendor negotiations is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, engineering, or construction management; or an associate degree in engineering or engineering technology with at least 8 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred working knowledge of HVAC equipment.
