About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Assistant to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Collect, document, and report vital signs, such as blood pressure, heights, and weights, and complete screening questions and document all items into the medical record.
  • Promote general patient safety and perform minor specimen testing, hold, position patients, and assist with procedures.
  • Remain compliant with HIPAA, maintain professionalism, and ensure confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensure environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Identify learning needs and attend continuing education as appropriate, participate in educational activities offered by the business unit, and act as a preceptor for orientation and training of other PCA staff.
  • Transport non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners at their discretion or from tube system to secured medication storage room.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • State Tested Nursing Assistant strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR (BLS for healthcare provider required).
  • Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills.
  • Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age-appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
  • Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years.
  • Nursing student can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally: Climb stairs/ladder, sitting, lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance.
  • Frequently: Squat/kneel, reaching above shoulder, repetitive arm and hand use, lifting/carrying 0-40lbs, pushing/pulling 0-61lbs, depth perception-vision.
  • Continuously: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity, and hearing acuity, color vision, seeing far/near.
