Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Environmental & Regulatory Programs (E&RP) Supervisor, the Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of environmental initiatives aimed at safeguarding Energy Northwest facilities and ensuring the well-being of both the public and the ecosystem. This role involves collaborating with various departments and management levels to monitor, communicate, and report on environmental performance, while also addressing any environmental challenges that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for designated environmental programs, liaising with state and federal regulatory bodies. Responsible for maintaining clear communication with these agencies, including participating in audits and inspections, utilizing expertise in regulatory standards.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to management on complex environmental regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to management regarding environmental issues, including the preparation of new permit applications and amendments.
  • Lead audits and inspections, developing plans for projects and evaluating results using engineering judgment.
  • Monitor changes in environmental regulations and proactively implement necessary adjustments within the organization.
  • Assess plant events for regulatory compliance and assist in determining reportability.
  • Offer technical guidance to fellow engineers and review their work, serving as a mentor within the team.
  • Integrate various operational, regulatory, and administrative requirements into project tasks, ensuring timely and budget-conscious execution.
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) as required.
  • Support major operational events, such as biennial refueling outages.
Qualifications

Environmental Compliance Specialist
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant experience in an environmental capacity.
