About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ambulatory Patient Access Representative to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our Patient Access department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration and scheduling of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and families, applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Interview and register patients in registration areas, obtaining accurate demographic, insurance, and physician information.
  • Screen customer data to ensure patient eligibility for insurance and communicate any differences to the customer.
  • Verify insurance pre-certification and physician referral requirements, instructing customers on any necessary steps.
  • Identify self-pay patients and refer them to financial assistance programs when applicable.
  • Maintain open communication with various departments and clinical staff, ensuring seamless interactions.
  • Assist in the training and development of new employees.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or Associate's Degree preferred.
  • One year of previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • CPR certification (based on position and as determined by manager).
  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to navigate current technology systems.
  • Strong administrative skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions

This role requires occasional squatting, reaching above shoulder level, and lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Frequent bending, twisting, and exposure to biohazard waste are also required. The ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods is necessary, as well as the use of computer skills and repetitive hand/arm movements.
