Position Title

Claims Representative (Full Time)

Role Summary

We are looking for a Claims Representative to manage a portfolio of claims and assist in the operations of our Claims Department. This role involves investigating, assessing, and resolving medical professional liability claims against our insured clients. The successful candidate will handle claims across various medical specialties with low to moderate severity and complexity, while also supporting other departments such as Underwriting, Risk Management, Finance, and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management

  • Oversee assigned claims inventory
  • Identify and evaluate coverage issues
  • Recommend appropriate defense counsel
  • Coordinate initial consultations with insured parties and legal representatives
  • Suggest defense medical experts
  • Review and analyze medical documentation
  • Manage litigation processes, including communication with defense counsel and monitoring legal developments
  • Document claim progress and prepare reports for reinsurers
  • Maintain regular communication with insured clients throughout the claims process
  • Develop and implement claim resolution strategies
  • Negotiate settlements directly with claimants or their counsel

General Duties

  • Stay informed about relevant legal decisions and industry trends
  • Utilize technology to enhance productivity and claim outcomes
  • Foster a collaborative team environment

Support for Company Operations

  • Assist in compiling and analyzing claims data
  • Participate in company events related to Loss Prevention and Business Development
  • Provide input on corporate initiatives and IT projects
  • Communicate claim developments to the Underwriting Department as necessary

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 2-4 years of experience in insurance claims handling or related legal experience
  • Experience with medical professional liability claims preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage diverse caseloads and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Claim Adjuster's license or willingness to obtain after hiring
