Job Responsibilities:

The Cytogenetics Laboratory at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is looking for a Genetic Analysis Specialist to execute karyotype and FISH techniques, alongside innovative molecular methodologies to identify novel genetic and clinically relevant chromosome and molecular markers.

The Genetic Analysis Specialist will join a team conducting conventional cytogenetics, FISH, and various microarray testing protocols on diverse tumor samples.

This role necessitates hands-on laboratory experience and a solid understanding of molecular cytogenetics.

Your Duties Will Include:
Under general supervision, perform cytogenetic evaluations of specimens received by the laboratory.
Initiate cultures, harvest samples, and analyze chromosomes with minimal oversight.
Identify standard cytogenetic anomalies.
Compile diagnostic reports while ensuring quality of work within set timelines.
Conduct laboratory tasks in accordance with established and approved Standard Operating Procedures.
Thoroughly review all test requests for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential issues.
Adhere to unidirectional specimen handling protocols to prevent contamination.
Assist in maintaining commonly used equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
Operate equipment meticulously and in accordance with procedures.
Conduct essential equipment checks, performance assessments, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment as per laboratory guidelines, as assigned.
Ensure equipment and instruments meet performance standards.

Maintain compliance with clinical genetic testing regulatory bodies and proficiency programs (CAP, CLIA, NYS Department of Health). Verify requisitions and labels; document patient information.


Qualifications:


A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline, with experience in a Cytogenetics laboratory, and a preference for candidates with 1 year of experience in chromosomal microarray (SNP-Array and/or aCGH).

NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License is required. Recent graduates with science degrees will be considered for Trainee positions. Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 10AM - 6PM - flexible to Tuesday to Saturday for candidate needs upon request. Rotating Saturdays (approximately every 6 weeks). Learn more about our Benefits.
