Senior/Principal Engineer

**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Engineer to join our System Protection and Automation team at San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engineering designs, specifications, and standards for our transmission and distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engineering designs, specifications, and standards for transmission and distribution systems.
- Provide technical recommendations and support for projects and tasks managed by others within the department or other departments.
- Responsible for engineering calculations to solve problems for new facilities and repairs/modifications to existing facilities related to the SDG&E electric transmission system.
- Conduct system protection coordination studies for electric transmission, substation, and distribution programs and projects.
- Ensure engineering designs, settings, and communication schemes are properly reviewed and issued to the construction field ready to install without error.
- Provide leadership direction and technical expertise to designers, planners, analysts, field personnel, contractors, consultants, engineers, and inter-disciplinary project teams.
- Gather data, perform calculations, and prepare designs to develop technically sound conclusions, recommendations, and results.
- Support Grid Operations and Distribution Operations by reviewing potential relay coordination issues on the electric system.
- Conduct safety and reliability-related incident investigations.
- Participate in engineering scoping, economic feasibility studies, and cost analyses related to the design, construction, and permitting of electric facilities and generation interconnection agreements and protective relay or other related infrastructure upgrade projects.
- Provide assessment of alternative methods, assessment of outside support requirements, and review of Company, City, State, and Regulatory Agency Codes.
- Work with Project Managers to manage specific capital projects and ensure that they are on time, on budget, and within standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Minimum of five years of engineering experience is required.
- Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in more advanced engineering concepts.
- Registration as a professional engineer is required.
- Uses a high degree of ingenuity, analytical ability, and judgment in identifying problems and impacts of complex engineering studies.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate, both verbally and in written form, technical and non-technical information/concepts.
- Experience using software tools including Aspen Oneliner, CAPE, Synergi Electric, SEL AcSELerator QuickSet, and ENOSERV PowerBase.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in System Protection Engineering roles is preferred.

The target for this position is an award of 15% of base salary and is based on individual and company performance for the plan year.
