Position Summary:
This role of Senior Principal Engineer in Manufacturing Systems is situated within the Operations sector and reports to the head of the Division Operations Systems Engineering department.
The primary focus of this organization is to expedite the cost-effective maturation of product lines and programs by providing a technical, systems-oriented Operations perspective throughout the capture, product development, and operational execution phases.
This position is based onsite to achieve strategic objectives and further distinguish our operations from competitors while enhancing our Operations Systems Engineering mission.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this role encompass, but are not limited to:
- Supporting Product Development and Design
- Formulating Manufacturing strategies and aiding product development
- Collaborating with engineering teams to enhance manufacturability
- Conducting cost trade analyses and evaluations for make/buy decisions
- Providing Manufacturing Readiness Assessment support
- Identifying risks and formulating mitigation strategies
- Recommending enhancements to product designs necessary for advanced microelectronics production
- Identifying operational investment requirements
- Coordinating with leadership on capital requirements for new initiatives
- Collaborating with Industrial Engineering for new capital investments
- Supporting Business Development Efforts
- Assisting management in developing teaming and cost strategies
- Shaping Operations-related requirements in proposals
- Validating capabilities for sourcing, production, testing, inspection, delivery, and maintenance of product offerings
- Identifying Operations-related risks and opportunities and managing strategies
- Promoting cultural change to facilitate streamlined early engagement approaches
Basic Qualifications:
This position necessitates a BS degree in a STEM field or a related technical discipline, along with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; (OR an MS degree with 7 years of relevant experience; OR a PhD with 4 years of relevant experience.)
Proficiency in MS Office applications is required, along with an active DoD Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is mandatory).
Experience in leading or managing projects, extensive Systems Engineering expertise, and Manufacturing Engineering experience are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Systems Engineering is highly advantageous.
Exceptional communication skills are necessary for interfacing with all organizational levels, including presenting technical topics to senior management.
Experience in developing cost models using industry-standard estimation tools, familiarity with IPC Class 3 electronics design and manufacturing, and knowledge of microelectronics technology and materials are beneficial.
Experience in reviewing technical documentation, preparing contract modifications, and knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) is also preferred.
Experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, as well as familiarity with J-STD, MIL-STD, and MIL-HBK requirements, is advantageous.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $133,000 - $199,600. This range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the role and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base compensation. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may qualify for Long Term Incentives.
